Forum Focus – Life In and Around Water
This session shines a spotlight on aquatic species in the City of Swan, including Ellen Brook, the Swan River, and smaller creeks such as Ki It Monger. Our region is home to the most endangered reptile on the planet – the Western Swamp Tortoise – as well as a second, equally special freshwater tortoise species.
Guest Speakers
Ian Barlow – “The Crazy Bushman”: Well-known citizen scientist sharing insights into Swan’s two freshwater tortoise species and their aquatic world.
Dr Damian Lettoof: Conservationist and herpetologist with 15+ years’ experience studying reptiles, frogs, birds, and microbats, specialising in the impacts of pollution and urbanisation.
Poppy Mahon: Youth activist from Youth Action for Wildlife, advocating for change to protect native species from harmful rodenticides.
