Ellenbrook Leisure Centre update

by Cr Aaron Bowman – City of Swan
At last night council meeting my motion regarding the Ellenbrook Leisure centre was supported unanimously by Council.

Council endorsed the concept for a REGIONAL leisure centre and agreed to proceed with detailed design and construction subject to agreement with the State Government.

A regional centre is what is needed for the population we now have living in the catchment area.

What is different from the previous proposal/ design? a 50 metre pool and a 25 metre pool instead of just a 25 metre pool is the biggest difference.

Add also warm hydro pool, water slides, allied health and an extra basketball court as well, plus much more.

This is what our community had been asking for, and what our community needs.

We now need to finalise an agreement with the state government for the provision of the required 4 hectares of land next to the train station. Although a big ask, by working together with our local members and the state government I don’t foresee any issues as they have all been huge advocates for a pool for Ellenbrook. They have after all committed $42 million towards this project.

8 years this community has been promised a pool, and yet we are no closer, so I understand what most will be thinking – what’s differen this time?

I have always advocated for a 50 metre pool and I gave my commitment to ensure the community is provided regular updates and I will keep doing this.

By working together we can make this happen.
