What’s Happening
We are planning for a new interchange on Tonkin Highway, north of Ellenbrook and south of Muchea to assist with unlocking housing opportunities to meet current and future demand for residential blocks in Western Australia.
Since 2023 our engagement with state government stakeholders and has identified a preferred interchange location and form.
Subject to obtaining environmental and heritage approvals, the procurement process for a design and construction contract is expected to start in 2026.
Project communications and stakeholder engagement is continuing.
The funding for the project will be delivered through a partnership between the Federal and State Governments, with each contributing 50 percent. Of the State’s share, 25 percent will be funded by the private sector, demonstrating a strong collaborative commitment to delivering essential infrastructure in Western Australia.
The interchange will support the implementation of the North Ellenbrook (East and West) District Structure Plan enabling the delivery of more than 12,500 new residential lots to address housing shortages in Western Australia and support the future 36,000 people expected to live there with essential services and both primary and high schools.
