Australian Athlete Sophie White to visit Swan Valley Little Athletics Centre

Australian athlete Sophie White will be at Swan Valley Little Athletics centre on Saturday 11 November – 4pm-5pm.

Australia’s track and field stars will make a return to grassroots Little Athletics centres over the next two weeks to inspire the next generation of Aussie athletes.

Australian hurdles legend Sally Pearson, dual World Champion Jaryd Clifford, 2018 Commonwealth Games high jump champion Brandon Starc and 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallists, KelseyLee Barber, Matthew Denny and Nina Kennedy, along with Little Athletics Australia Ambassadors Jordi McMillan, Richard Colman, Nana Owusu, Jackson Mellor, Sophie White and James Turner will visit regional and metro Little Athletics centres across Australia to share their training tips with aspiring athletes.

Sophie’s athletic ability was first noticed by her Gymnastics coach at a very young age. From there, she joined Peel Little Athletics in U8’s. She excelled in both the Sprints and Long Jump but by the age of 12 years, she had developed a love for hurdling. A few years later, Sophie went on equal the legendary Sally Pearson’s Under 18 100m Hurdles record, then stormed to win the Silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires.

“Little Athletics is what sparked my love for the sport of athletics and helped shape me into the athlete I am today”. Through her experience competing at different levels as a junior, Sophie has an incredible story to share to the next generation of athletes about overcoming injuries, staying  resilient and celebrating the small wins in life.

Something I really love about Little Athletics is that it provides young athletes of all abilities the chance to try different events in what is a fun and supportive environment. Many of my greatest memories of Little Athletics, even until I completed U17s, involved simply having fun with my friends and giving different things a try”.

The appearances are part of Little Athletics Australia’s Coles Community Round where kids and families participate in Coles-inspired activities such as banana relays, shopping basket races and Little Athletics’ version of ‘fashions on the field.

Coles Community Round is held over 14 days from Thursday 11 November to Saturday 18 November with both Coles and Little Athletics Australia Ambassadors making appearances at local centres.
